Cloisonne is the art of applying colorful enamels to the surface of metallic objects.

In the 14th century, the Art of Cloisonne was passed onto the Chinese by western travelers, and later perfected by the Chinese.

The wires are soldered to form an image, into which colored enamels are inlaid and then fired. The enameling and firing process is repeated until a perfectly smooth finish is obtained.
